A Legacy of Design: Three Generations, One Passion

Our family’s journey in the world of decorating is a story woven with unexpected turns, enduring dedication, and a shared love for creating beautiful spaces.

It all began in 1965, when my grandfather laid the foundation for our paint, wallpaper, and window treatment store. In 1978, my father, Michael Sferrazza, took the reins and led the business to new heights, becoming a trusted name in the Rockville Center community.

My own path seemed to lead elsewhere. After earning a BA in Liberal Arts in 1992, I entered a tough job market and began helping my father at the store—just temporarily, or so I thought. A chance encounter with a sales manager from Hunter Douglas soon changed everything. Within a year, I had become an Account Executive, opening the door to a fulfilling career I hadn’t planned, but quickly came to love.

When motherhood called, I stepped back from the corporate world—but not from creativity. Running a business from home while taking online interior decorating classes felt like a natural evolution. Still, it wasn’t until my children were older and I pursued a formal degree in interior design that I truly found where my heart belonged.

Now, a new chapter is unfolding—and it’s a full family affair. My daughter, Deanna, has inherited our family’s eye for design. Inspired by color, creativity, and her love of HGTV, she earned a BA in Interior Design from Pratt Institute—one of the nation's top programs. Her talent, fresh perspective, and enthusiasm have brought new life to our shared vision

My son, John, has also joined the business, adding a whole new layer to what we offer. He handles small contracting work, blind repairs, general home fixes, house watching, and furniture delivery. John is also in charge of our growing mattress section. His reliability, hands-on skill set, and problem-solving nature make him an essential part of our team—and a trusted resource for our clients.

Today, our family is proud to continue the tradition, side by side. Together, we bring three generations of experience, passion, and innovation to every project. We believe in creating spaces that tell stories—yours and ours—and reflect a legacy built not just on design, but on heart.

Meet Michaela

Interior Designer at JM Designs Michaela is one of our talented interior designers at JM Designs, bringing creativity, expertise, and a fresh perspective to every project she takes on. She holds a BFA in Interior and Spatial Design from Russell Sage College, where she built a strong foundation in core design principles. With a passion for crafting spaces that are both functional and inspiring, Michaela is known for her thoughtful, client-centered approach. She carefully considers each client’s lifestyle, needs, and personality to create interiors that truly reflect who they are. Her design philosophy is grounded in attention to detail, an intuitive understanding of spatial flow, and a deep appreciation for how materials and environments influence emotion. Whether she's designing residential homes, commercial spaces, or specialty environments, Michaela is committed to delivering work that feels intentional, refined, and uniquely tailored to its users.
